Get a high-quality Jewish education from any location!
The George Kaplan Afternoon School and Midrasha program has provided quality Jewish education to the Twin Cities Jewish community for more than 60 years! Now, we offer our program to students across Minnesota, the midwest, and beyond through our virtual classes.
All classes are taught synchronously by our expert faculty. We strive to ensure that every class is engaging and interactive, and fosters connections between the student, the teacher, and their classmates.
We have no affiliation to any singular Jewish movement or congregation.
Our Curriculum
Students in grades 2-8 attend classes virtually on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 PM and in-person Sundays 9:30-11 AM.
Each student takes classes in Hebrew and Torah/Jewish Text Study. Throughout the year, we also incorporate the study of Jewish life and values, Holidays, and Israeli history and culture.
Hebrew
The course of study in the early grades emphasizes Hebrew literacy. Language is the key to culture. We are the ‘People of the book,’ and as our Torah is written in Hebrew, having access to original texts provides for a richer, more nuanced understanding of the text. The focus will be on modern Hebrew.
Torah/Jewish Text Study
As students gain facility in the language, they are introduced to classical Jewish texts in the original language. Torah study at TTSP means a deep exploration of texts our people have been studying for thousands of years. These are the texts that link us to our past and to each other. They tell us where we came from and give us guidance on how we are to live in the world.
There are many ways to engage with these texts: we support a literary approach, one that enables, allows, and asks readers to delve deeply, ask questions, and make meaning. The goal is for the learner to see his/her narrative as part of the larger Jewish narrative.
Tuition
Tuition for a full year of Afternoon School is $2600 per child. This includes Hebrew and Torah classes as well as supplies and materials needed for the year.
Payment plans are available as well as need-based tuition assistance.
